Home Made Applesauce

obpfalljar There are some things that frankly I just can't make as well as store bought.  Like dill pickles.  I have made some completely inedible dill pickles in my day.  And it only took me about 18 hours of labor plus weeks of "brining" in the basement.  And then I couldn't even compost this failed experiment (I feared for my garden!).

But applesauce - now that is a totally different story.  There is nothing like home canned applesauce.  I can't even eat store bought any more.  We cook ours down for hours until its ever so slightly chunky.  Add just a little cinnamon.  Pure apple bliss that fills the whole house with that wonderful apple smell.

Here is one of our jars decorated for a little gift.  I used the Harvest Hello Cling set to make the tag and the band around the jar.  This set is from Odd Bird Planet.  The stamps are trimmed, mounted on cling foam, indexed on the back and packaged in a CD case.  Right now its included in our Fall-a-Days sale.

I stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa and colored with my beloved Copic Markers.  The tag is made with Nestibility dies.

Yes!  Finally there is some Odd Bird Planet in the store!  We've added 7 new Odd Bird Planet cling sets!  I'm so excited to finally have the stamp line it the store!

I'm with ya on the homemade applesauce - I can't eat any other kind. I think it's the taste and texture. I like mine a little chunky, too. If only I new how to do the whole canning/jarring thing. I love how you decorated yours!

Also, digging the witch shoes card!

We had apple trees in our back yard when I was growing up and fall meant football and cutting up apples. There was always a bounty of homemade applesauce, apple pie, apple everything. This time of year, I get very nostalgic for the smell of cooking apples.

Gorgeous!

I love to make applesauce, but never thought of canning it. We always eat it way too soon.

I know this is heresy, but who needs the stamped, pretty labels when there is homemade applesause inside the jar?

I just stumbled across your blog while cruising for copics info. What a great site you have here! And personally, homemade applesauce is definitely the best. I teach 2nd grade and to celebrate Johnny Appleseed day we made applesauce in our classroom! The room smelled like apples and cinnoman for several days! Yum!
