They were all the rage a couple years ago - but I have not seen them in a while. I've always liked them because the main part of the card is also a little gift.
In this one, the image is is Fall Leaves by Impression Obsession. I thought the shape really lent itself to a bookmark - so why not.
The image is colored with Copics, trimmed and mounted on a piece of straw colored matte. I left the bottom of the matte a little long so I could punch it with the Diamond Elegance border punch.
Then I mounted this on a strip that was 11" long and 2 1/2" wide, scored in the middle. I also mounted a stamped saying on the back side of the folded bookmark.
Inside the bookmark, I placed two strips of thin sheet magnet. You can buy sheet magnet - or you can just cut up those magnetic business cards you get from all over.
When the bookmark is placed over the card (or a page in a book) the magnets keep it in place.
To make the card, I just matted patterned paper over card stock on the front. Not positive about the competing patterns of the stamp image and the paper, but I was dying to use this patterned paper - so.... I did.

You have no idea how timely this is. Today is my best friend of 37 years' birthday and she is a voracious reader. We are meeting up tomorrow at a bookstore and I can give her this. How cool! I'll post my creation and link back. Thanks a million! Oh, and I think the bookmark goes fine with the paper. I love both and besides, it's not like the bookmark is going to stay on the card.
The "competing" patterns look terrific together!!!
Thanks for a GREAT tutorial!
Ok, so here is my copy of your card. I didn't do the magnet thing, but I did make a bookmark!
Wow. Cool. I have one of those magnetic bookmarks. It's a penguin, so I love it, but yours is much prettier.
I love that border punch. Uh oh.
What a lovely bookmark & special gift.
that's very cool! thanks for sharing :) and I do think the way you colored it the stamp goes well with the paper!
Wow, Catherine. This is really neat and a great idea for a book worm gift. I have never seen magnetic bookmarks like this. It looks great.
Gorgeous bookmark and card! I think they go well together. The cool thing is once you remove the bookmark to use in a book, the card part still looks good by itself :)
Beautiful bookmark. I haven't made one before. Great idea.
This is so pretty! The patterned paper and the bookmark look great together.
Gorgeous! I have got to try this out. Brilliant. :O)
